Thank you, Keith. That’s exactly what I think – it’s better to get them reading SOMETHING, especially something that will hold their interest, than for them to lose interest in reading entirely. I appreciate your comment.

Couldn’t agree more…. Surely the whole idea of reading is to ‘read’, this is exactly the kinds of ’small steps’ I would advocate anybody doing to achieve their final goal.
AND also , if you only ever read stuff that you don’t want to read then sooner or later, you’ll give up !! Because anything that takes too much willpower eventually ends in failure !! FACT.
It’s why the stuff we do actually works, we focus students on what they do want NOT what they don’t want !!! http://www.thebigpicture.eu.com

I’ll send you some citations from the library world about comics and graphic novels and their effect on reading skills. It’s one of the reasons we are increasing our graphic novel collection just about as fast as we can.
